(Model HTG-98)
MIFCO HTG-98 Gas Heat Treat Furnace uses automatic temperature control and proportioning burner systems with standing pilot, spark ignition and ultraviolet safety systems.

METHODS OF HEATING:

Temperature uniformity throughout the heating chamber is the goal in the design and operation of high temperature, heat treating furnaces. The transmission of heat at high temperature is primarily by RADIATION from the hot walls of the furnace chamber.

The heating rate of the furnace must be balanced as near as possible to the heat-absorption rate of the work charge. Excessively high heat input causes overheating of thin sections, edges and corners of tools and dies, resulting in poor metallurgical structure, excessive warping and cracking.

Regardless of the method of heating employed (gas or electric), the most important factor is TEMPERATURE UNIFORMITY so the parts being treated will heat UNIFORMLY.

Gas fired furnaces have definite advantages – lower initial and lower operating costs; less maintenance and lower cost of installation. Gas burners not only eliminate the need for replacing expensive heating element’s, but require only a minimum of maintenance.

The high operating range of gas provides maximum flexibility of operation. Control of temperature through correct burner arrangement and furnace design is as efficient as any other method of heating. Modern combustion safeguard systems minimize operational hazards.

CONSTRUCTION FEATURES:

MIFCO HTG Furnaces use industrial, automatic proportioning burner systems to maintain constant gas/air mixture ratio over the full firing range. Simple adjustment of the mixer gives a wide capacity range with either natural or artificial gas.

Industrial centrifugal blowers furnish air at a constant pressure. The motorized air valve, actuated by the automatic temperature controller, provides dependable operation.

The refractory-lined door is operated by hand or foot pedal, and is spring counter balanced to close properly with minimum effort. Door guides maintain a tight seal between the door lining and the face tile.

HTG58MIFCO HTG Furnace shells and components are constructed of heavy gauge materials that are wire welded and structurally reinforced where necessary for exceptionally long service life under normal operating conditions.

COMBUSTION SAFEGUARD:

MIFCO furnishes an Ultra-Violet Safety System that is activated by the ultra-violet rays emitted by a spark or flame. Ignition is automatic by high intensity spark at start-up. In the event of flame failure, for any reason, the flame scanner closes the gas solenoid valve immediately and purges the system. Manual reset is the necessary to restart the furnace.

AUTOMATIC TEMPERATURE CONTROL:

Standard temperature control systems consist of digital readout, microprocessor based controllers mounted in a separate, Nema 1 rated control panel. These controllers are pre-configured and thoroughly tested at the factory for easy operation.

Various programmable and recording instruments can be supplied. (Some may require special control panels.) All control panels are completely wired, ready for immediate installation.

FIRING METHOD:

MIFCO HTG Gas Heat Treating Furnaces utilize the tangential method of firing to develop a swirling sheet of flame that hugs the combustion chamber walls. Multiple burners are staggered to maintain a constant flame velocity over the length of the chamber and to assure maximum uniformity of temperature for even heating.

COMBUSTION CHAMBER LINING:

Hard-burned sectional linings provide maximum service life, as proved by experience gained in commercial heat treating. These kiln-burned, tongue and grooved sections are carefully fitted and securely cemented in place. The sectional design permits lining movement caused by thermal expansion and contraction thus resisting cracking and premature failure of the combustion chamber. Super Duty, High Alumina Refractory is used because it provides longer service life than the first quality fire brick or soft insulation refractory used.

INSULATION:

High temperature castable refractory insulation, cast between furnace lining and combustion chamber lining, forms a monolithic seal. It assures faster heating and lower heat loss for greater furnace efficiency. Relining kits, including all refractory shapes, insulation and mortar materials, are available from factory stock.
